WAYS FOR ENGINEERING GRADUATES TO JOIN INDIAN ARMY AS COMMISSIONED OFFICERS.

UNIVERSITY ENTRY SCHEME (UES)

This entry is meant for Engineering students who are in their pre final year of graduation. This entry helps students appear for the entrance examination while they are still in College. So, in case a student clears the entrance and SSB (Services Selection Board) Interview, he will be selected to train at IMA (Indian Military Academy) and inducted into the Indian Army!

Eligibility Criteria-

Age criteria is that the candidate should be between 19 and 25 years with reference to the first day of the month in which the training will begin at IMA. Educational qualificationrequired is that the candidate must be pursuing Degree Engineering course (pre final year) from a recognized Institute. The candidate should be un married.

Technical Graduate Course

Those who are studying in final year/ have completed BE/B Tech in notified streams can also join IMA through Technical Graduate Course. Look out for the advertisement published in leading newspapers/employment news in May/Jun & Nov/Dec every year. Selected candidates will be granted Short Service Commission on probation in the rank of Lieutenant from the date of commencement of the course or the date of reporting at IMA, whichever is later and will be entitled to full pay and allowances admissible to Lt during training period. Pay & allowances will be paid after successful completion of training.

Duration of training is one year. Selected candidates will be detailed for training at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun according to their position in the final order of merit up to the number of vacancies available in each subject. On successful completion of training cadets will be granted Permanent Commission in the Army in the rank of Lieutenant. Officers may be granted commission in any Arms/Services and will be liable for service in any part of the world on selected appointments as decided by Army Headquarters from time to time. One year ante date seniority from the date of commission will be granted to Engineering Graduates of TGC Entry.

 SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION (SSc) TECHNICAL ENTRY

This is a very popular entry among Engineering graduates. This entry offers them the freedom to choose the length of their stint with the Army. Under this entry, a candidate, if selected, has to serve as a Commissioned Officer for a period of 10 years (extendable up to 14 years). After this period, they have freedom to choose whether to opt out of Army or stay on.

Eligibility Criteria-

Age should be between 20 to 27 years with reference to the first day of the month on which training will begin. Educational qualification- Engineering Degree from recognized Institute. Both married or unmarried candidates may apply. The training will be provided at OTA (Officers Training Academy), Chennai.
